Mmm, Beer!
So, in addition to the bachelorette party cookies I made last week (which I had to remove from Facebook...bummer!), I made these beer cookies for my FIL's (father-in-law) birthday! I wasn't sure HOW to do them, so I just dug in and tried. Started with a brown base, and once it was dried, I brushed some silver luster dust on to give it an "icy" look. Then came the piping. You can tell I don't use a kopykake, because the lines are so shaky! Oh, the things I could create with a kopykake!! ;) I guess they turned out okay. I am definitely my own worst critic. But he liked them a lot, so that's all that matters! Hubby said the mugs remind him of the Simpsons, and I should have written "Duff" across the front. Haha!
PS~sorry for my shadow on the pic...it was taken with my phone! And Picnik is NOT saving my edited photos...grrr!

Rough cookie week!
Remember at the beginning, I said I wanted to showcase my success AND failures? Well, this last week was definitely a ROUGH cookie week! *Deep breath* Here we go...
I was asked to do two different sets of cookies for the same school. First is their logo, Delaware Hayes Pacers. These aren't so bad, but I'm not thrilled with them:
Next is an OSU theme. I originally had Block O's in the mix, but the dough spread waaay too much, and they looked like blobs. I really dislike this set. The helmets are abominations! I don't know if they were just being polite or what, but everyone said they loved them. I hope they were sincere!
Next up are bachelorette cookies, and beer! Can't go wrong with those!! Have a great weekend!! :)

Busy week!
Sooo glad I made it through the week! Here's a quick look at what I've been up to:
I'm a little late to the game on the Lego men. Everyone has already done them. But oh well! They were fun and easy to do!
That is all for now. I will post some patriotic cookies a little later.
HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!!!

More Cat in the Hat!
Alright, alright! I am a bad blogger. How am I ever supposed to get my name out there and get more followers if I don't update my blog? (roll eyes and grin)
Since so many people on Facebook have been asking me how I make the Cat in the Hat cookies, I figured this would be the perfect opportunity to create a new blog post and try to redeem myself (Really, it just doesn't all fit on Facebook. HA!).
Okay, so one of the most frequently asked questions is, where do I get my cutters? Well, I don't have any Dr. Seuss cutters. :(
I have to make a template out of an image I like. You can print the image to size, cut it, trace the outline onto a piece of vellum, or a plastic butter lid you don't need, etc. Once you trace it, you then cut THAT image, and you're ready to rock and roll. I always save the original paper image though, so I can look at it for details!
This is the image I used for my template:
Hopefully, you don't have a large order of cookies to do, because hand-cutting these bad boys out of cookie dough takes FOREVER! :)
Once they're baked and cooled, I start piping the outline in black royal icing. If you're using Wilton tips, use a #2 to pipe the outline. I think #3 just looks too thick on these. Wanna know a secret? You can always use a black food marker to outline the image on the cookie before you pipe it. This trick works GREAT if you don't have a Kopykake. I kinda learned that one from Sugarbelle. If you're going to do this, you might want to get a few black food markers. Drawing on a rough cookie surface will ruin your tip, and you need the good markers for detail! ;)
I always flood one color at a time.
So here's Cat and Thing after flooding. They're finally ready for faces! Yay!
I always add the hat and hair detail first, and save the faces for last. This is where the GOOD fine point food markers come in handy (NOT the one you used to draw on the blank cookie).
Notice how the Cats noses are opposite? Oops! These are actually my least favorite of the cats. I definitely haven't perfected this yet! LOL
And here's Things 1 and 2:
And there you have it! They're really pretty easy to do, they just take patience to let each part dry completely. PLEASE let your flood icing dry for several hours, or even overnight. Your marker will poke right through if you don't, leaving you to say some choice words, and forcing you to eat your mistakes. Darn those mistakes! ;)
